Dangote

Dangote is a major African conglomerate headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria, operating across cement, sugar, salt, flour, pasta, beverages and energy sectors. The company is part of the Dangote Group, founded and controlled by Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote, Africa's wealthiest individual. Dangote operates manufacturing facilities and distribution networks across Nigeria and has expanded into other West African and Central African markets. The group's flagship venture, the Dangote Refinery in Lagos, is one of the world's largest single-train petroleum refineries, with a capacity of 650 000 barrels a day, and includes integrated petrochemical facilities producing polypropylene and other derivatives. Dangote Cement is sub-Saharan Africa's largest cement producer, with operations in multiple countries including Ethiopia, Senegal, Ghana, Zambia and South Africa. The company has pursued vertical integration strategies, controlling supply chains from raw material extraction through to finished goods distribution. Dangote has partnered with international equipment suppliers, including Chinese manufacturer XCMG, to support its industrial expansion. The conglomerate also produces fertiliser, notably urea, at large-scale plants designed to serve both domestic and export markets. Dangote's investments have positioned it as a key driver of industrialisation and import substitution across West and Central Africa. The group was established in 1981 as a trading business and has since evolved into one of Africa's most diversified and capitalised industrial enterprises.
