Colombia

Colombia is a country located in the north-western corner of South America, bordered by Panama, Venezuela, Brazil, Peru and Ecuador, with coastlines on both the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. The capital is Bogotá, and the country has a population of about 52-million people. Colombia has a mixed economy with key sectors including oil and gas, coal, coffee, flowers, textiles and manufacturing. The country is a significant exporter of petroleum, coal and natural gas, making fossil fuels a major component of its export revenue and fiscal base. The currency is the Colombian peso. Colombia is a presidential republic with a bicameral Congress. The country is a member of regional organisations including the Pacific Alliance, the Andean Community and the Organization of American States. Colombia signed the Paris Agreement and has committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions as part of the global energy transition, though balancing climate goals with energy security and economic development remains a policy challenge. The economy has historically depended on commodity exports, and the government has pursued diversification alongside efforts to address internal conflict and promote social development.
