Chery

Chery is a Chinese automotive manufacturer headquartered in Wuhu, Anhui province, and one of the country's largest vehicle exporters. The company produces passenger cars, sport-utility vehicles and commercial vehicles across multiple brand portfolios. Chery operates manufacturing facilities in China and has established assembly and production partnerships in numerous international markets, including Africa, South America, the Middle East and Eastern Europe. The company's brand portfolio includes the Chery marque alongside newer sub-brands such as Omoda and Jaecoo, which target different market segments and customer demographics. Chery has pursued an expansion strategy in Africa, establishing assembly operations and distribution networks in several countries on the continent. In South Africa, Chery has partnered with local manufacturers to assemble vehicles at facilities including the Rosslyn plant near Pretoria, supporting job creation and local automotive value chains. The company competes in the affordable and mid-market segments, offering a range of models from compact hatchbacks to larger SUVs. Chery was founded in 1997 and has grown to become a significant player in emerging automotive markets, with a focus on cost-competitive vehicles and expanding global footprint.
