Caterpillar

Caterpillar is a US-based multinational corporation that manufactures construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives. The company is headquartered in Irving, Texas, and operates manufacturing facilities and dealerships across more than 190 countries. Caterpillar is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol CAT and is a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average. The company's core products include earthmoving machinery, hydraulic excavators, backhoe loaders, motor graders, off-highway trucks, wheel loaders, agricultural equipment and a wide range of engines for industrial applications. Caterpillar holds a leading position in the global heavy equipment market, competing with manufacturers such as Komatsu, Hitachi and Volvo Construction Equipment. The company reported annual revenue exceeding $60-billion in recent years and employs about 110 000 people worldwide. Caterpillar products are distributed through an extensive dealer network, with authorised dealers such as Barloworld Equipment serving markets in Africa and other regions. The company also provides financing, insurance and parts support through its Cat Financial division. Caterpillar was founded in 1925 following the merger of the Holt Manufacturing Company and the C. L. Best Tractor Company, and has since grown into one of the world's largest manufacturers of heavy machinery.
