Cambodia

Cambodia is a country in South-East Asia bordered by Thailand, Laos and Vietnam, with a coastline on the Gulf of Thailand. The capital and largest city is Phnom Penh. Cambodia has a population of about 17-million people and an economy that has grown rapidly since the 1990s, driven by garments manufacturing, tourism, construction and agriculture. The country is a constitutional monarchy, with King Norodom Sihamoni as head of State. Cambodia's currency is the riel, though the US dollar circulates widely in commerce. The economy relies heavily on exports of clothing and footwear to international markets, alongside rice, rubber and cassava. Cambodia is a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and has attracted significant foreign direct investment in manufacturing and infrastructure. The country emerged from decades of conflict, including the Khmer Rouge regime of the 1970s, and has since pursued economic liberalisation and integration into regional trade networks. Governance remains centralised, and the business environment is shaped by close ties between government and commercial interests. Cambodia's strategic location and young workforce continue to underpin its role as a manufacturing hub in the region.
