Barrick Gold

Barrick Gold is a Canadian multinational gold mining company and one of the largest gold producers in the world. The company is headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, and operates mines across North America, South America, Africa and the Middle East. Barrick is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange, with a market capitalisation that places it among the top-tier mining companies globally. The company's core business is the exploration, development and production of gold, with additional interests in copper mining. Barrick's portfolio includes several world-class mining operations, including the Cortez and Goldstrike mines in Nevada, the Pueblo Viejo mine in the Dominican Republic, and the Loulo-Gounkoto complex in Mali. The company produces millions of ounces of gold annually and employs tens of thousands of people worldwide. Barrick has faced resource nationalism challenges in several African jurisdictions, including disputes with governments in Mali, Guinea and Tanzania over taxation, ownership stakes and regulatory compliance. The company was formed in 1983 and has grown through organic development and major acquisitions, including the merger with Randgold Resources in 2019, which significantly expanded its African footprint.
