Barbara Creecy

Barbara Creecy is a South African politician who serves as Minister of Transport, a position she has held since June 2024. She is a member of the African National Congress (ANC) and has been a Member of Parliament since 2019. Before her appointment to the transport portfolio, Creecy served as Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment from May 2019 to June 2024, where she was responsible for environmental policy, climate change initiatives and natural resource management. Prior to her national government roles, she held the position of Gauteng Member of the Executive Council for Agriculture and Rural Development from 2009 to 2014, and later served as Gauteng MEC for Finance from 2015 to 2019. In her current role as Transport Minister, Creecy oversees South Africa's transport infrastructure, including road networks, rail systems and aviation, and works closely with entities such as the South African National Roads Agency. She recurs in coverage related to transport policy, infrastructure development, road tolling debates and environmental regulation. Creecy holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of the Witwatersrand and has been active in ANC politics since the anti-apartheid struggle era. Her career reflects a progression from provincial finance and agriculture portfolios to national environmental and transport leadership.
