Bahrain

Bahrain is an island nation in the Persian Gulf, situated between the Qatar peninsula and the north-eastern coast of Saudi Arabia. The capital is Manama. With a population of about 1.5 million, Bahrain has a diversified economy that includes financial services, aluminium production, petroleum refining and tourism. The country is a major regional banking and finance hub, hosting numerous international institutions. Bahrain's aluminium sector is anchored by Aluminium Bahrain, one of the world's largest single-site smelters, which plays a significant role in the national economy. The currency is the Bahraini dinar. Bahrain is a constitutional monarchy and a member of the Gulf Cooperation Council, maintaining close political and economic ties with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states. The country has pursued economic liberalisation and diversification to reduce dependence on oil revenues, which remain important but account for a smaller share of GDP than in neighbouring states. Bahrain's strategic location and business-friendly environment have supported its development as a commercial and logistics centre in the Gulf region.
