Alcoa

Alcoa is a global aluminium producer headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in the United States. The company operates across the aluminium value chain, from bauxite mining and alumina refining to the production of primary aluminium and fabricated aluminium products. Alcoa has operations in multiple countries, with significant facilities in Australia, the US, Brazil, Spain, Iceland and Norway. The company is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol AA. Alcoa's core business includes the extraction of bauxite ore, which is refined into alumina and then smelted into aluminium metal used in aerospace, automotive, packaging, construction and other industries. The company is one of the world's largest producers of alumina and aluminium, with major refining operations in Western Australia including the Wagerup and Pinjarra refineries. Alcoa has positioned itself as a supplier of low-carbon aluminium products to support the energy transition and has invested in technologies to reduce emissions across its operations. The company was founded in 1888 as the Pittsburgh Reduction Company and adopted the name Aluminium Company of America, later shortened to Alcoa. In 2016 Alcoa split into two publicly traded companies, with Alcoa Corporation focusing on upstream mining and smelting operations and Arconic specialising in engineered products and solutions.
