Abstract:	South Africa’s Department of Energy (DoE) has initiated the long-awaited process to procure electricity from small-scale renewable energy projects of between 1 MW and 5 MW. The department has indicated that it intends procuring 100 MW from small-scale wind, solar photovoltaic, biomass, biogas and landfill gas technologies under its Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Programme (REIPPP), which was initiated in 2011.
