WEG Transformers Africa

WEG Transformers Africa (WTA) is one of the largest manufacturers of mini substations and distribution transformers in South Africa.

Part of Zest WEG Group, WTA is able to design, engineer and manufacture the complete range of transformers presently in use in the continent’s mining and industrial sectors. Following a significant capital investment by parent company WEG Brazil WTA operates two comprehensively equipped international organisation for standardisation-accredited manufacturing operations, one in Wadeville and the other in Heidelberg.

WTA Wadeville produces standard distribution, power and special application transformers ranging from 500 kVA to 10 MVA in voltages up to 66 kV, with off-load tap switches or on-load tap changers.

WTA Heidelberg – which was previously TSS Transformers – is capable of locally manufacturing power transformers up to 40 MVA in voltages up to 132 kV, as well as mini substations and moulded circuit breakers.

The Heidelberg facility operates what is considered to be the best privately operated oil sampling laboratory in South Africa. This gives customers access to skilled technicians who analyse samples on high-quality equipment to world-class standards.
