The 2.5-m-tall statue of the former African National Congress president has been erected at the airport that also bears his name, OR Tambo International Airport, in Ekurhuleni. Depicting his return to South Africa in December 1990 after 30 years in exile, the statue has been unveiled as part of a series of events to commemorate the centenary of OR Tambo’s birth on October 27, 1917.
