Wesbank carports solar panel project, South Africa

Name of the Project
Wesbank carports solar panel project.

Location
Fairland, Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa.

Client
WesBank and FNB.

Project Description
The project involves the replacement of shade-net carports with solar photovoltaic (PV) panels.

The 150 000 m2 Fairland campus shared by Wesbank and FNB has 978 outdoor parking bays. The ageing carports will be replaced with new structures that will use 7 019 PV panels.

Along with providing shade for vehicles, the installation will be capable of providing 1 806 kWh of energy (peak) for the building, with three-million kilowatt hours expected to be produced in the first year. This will be enough to power the average South African household for nearly 800 years.

The project will be rolled out in two phases.
