Telecommunications group Vodacom on Tuesday introduced a new prepaid package, offering consumers a flat rate of 2c a second on its Anytime Per Second price plan.

The package enables customers to call at a flat rate to any network at anytime.

It equated to R1.20 a minute talk time, similar to the One4ALL 2c-a-second prepaid price plan for any local call, to any network, released by rival MTN earlier this month.

Cell C currently offered 99c For Real – a 99c a minute on per second billing product, while Telkom’s mobile offshoot 8ta offered current prices of 95c a minute.

The new deal also incorporated Vodacom’s Free Night Shift deal, wherein customers received 60 minutes of free calls between midnight and 05:00 for seven days with every recharge of R12 or more.

Vodacom also recently launched Free4Sho, also known as Daily Free Calls, where customers pay for the first three minutes and get the next 57 minutes free on Vodacom to Vodacom calls at anytime.

The group also offered its veteran product – Vodacom4Less – which randomly gave customer discounts of up to 100% on calls, dependent on the time of day and location. Customers on this package also had access to the Free Night Shift offering.

“All of our 24.7-million prepaid customers are different and what we are now providing is better choice with three very simple offers [to] choose from,” said Vodacom consumer business unit chief officer Phil Patel.
