Vitrex Ablution Cubicles For Several S.A. Universities

29th April 2014

Vitrex, South Africa’s leading producer of enamel steel products for architectural applications, has recently completed contracts from several South African universities for the supply and installation of its Vitraflex vitreous enamel steel cloakroom cubicles.

Cristian Cottino, Sales & Marketing Director of Vitrex in Boksburg, says the company supplied its Vitraflex Classic Range cubicles to the following tertiary institutions:

• UNISA’s Florida Campus, Blocks E,F, and G;
• University of Johannesburg’s refurbished Perskor Building;
• University of Pretoria’s Amphitheatre ablutions and to the UP Engineering Building;
• University of the Witwatersrand’s Health Science Teaching and Support Centre building on the West Campus;  and
• University of the Free State’s entrance facilities at its Qwa Qwa Campus.

“In addition, Vitrex is also currently involved with the provision of Vitraflex toilet and shower cubicles for a new student shower block at the University of Zululand in Richards Bay,” Cottino adds.

Vitraflex cloakroom cubicles supplied - and invariably also installed - by Vitrex can be found throughout southern Africa: from commercial and industrial property developments to mining hostels and canteens as well as hospitals, clinics, universities and schools. The company’s cubicles were also widely used in the stadia built for the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup.

The extreme surface hardness of the vitreous enamel coating of the cloakroom cubicles is produced by fusing three layers of glass to sheet steel at temperatures of over 800 degrees Celsius. “The resultant durable surface is corrosion-proof, impervious to chemicals, spray paints and also ultra-hygienic because of the absence of bacterial or mould growth. Colours are permanent and fade-proof - even under the harshest conditions,” Cottino states.

“The surface is graffiti-proof and requires no maintenance apart from an occasional wipe down. The cubicles’ waterproofing qualities are ideally suited to wet areas, showers and high pressure water jet cleaning operations. The partition elements are manufactured as single sheet units with no joints involved which enhances the product’s appearance, adds rigidity, as well as hygienic qualities,” he adds.

Recent tests in Europe – involving nine different materials – have shown that vitreous enamel steel provides maximum anti-bacterial protection. Vitreous enamel steel products also conform to the highest global standards for fire safety.
