The development is a partnership between the Gauteng provincial government and the River City Development Company.

Project Description
Vaal River City aims to unlock the potential of the waterfront developments in the Emfuleni and Midvaal areas of Sedibeng.

The development will connect all the townships in the area and provide access to key roads that link Sasolburg, Vanderbiljlpark, Sharpeville and Emfuleni.

In the next five years, 120 000 houses will be built and will constitute 20% to 25% of the development, with a mixed-housing typology planned.

The project will also feature a 60 000 m2 lifestyle centre, a 400 000 m2 commercial office park and 20 ha of parklands.

Value
An estimated R4-billion is planned to be invested in the development.

Duration
Construction is expected to start at the end of 2015.

A sod-turning ceremony was held in May.
