Name and Location
Ultra mega solar power project, Rajasthan, India.

Client
A joint venture company comprising Sambhar Salts Limited (SSL), with equity participation from Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL – 26%), Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI – 23%), Hindustan Salts Limited (HSL – 16%), Powergrid (16%), Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVNL – 16%) and Rajasthan Electronics & Instruments Limited (REIL – 3%), will develop the project on surplus land available to SSL.

Project Description
The project involves the construction of a solar power facility with a cumulative capacity of 4 000 MW in Rajasthan.

The plant will be built in two phases over seven years. Phase 1 will comprise 1 000 MW and the balance will constructed in the next phase.

The power plant will rely on proven and reliable crystalline silicon technology, supplemented by refinements in encapsulation hardware and mounting configuration to overcome the harsh tropical environment.

With an estimated plant life of 25 years, the generation potential of the solar plant is estimated at 6.4-billion units of electricity a year.

This is expected to reduce the carbon footprint by more than four-million tons a year.
