As parastatal Transnet intensifies efforts to diversify sources of revenue, boost performance and enhance customer satisfaction, two new appointments have been made in its business development unit.

Effective August 1, Gert de Beer will take up the position of chief business development officer, with Mike Fanucchi as commercial sales and marketing group executive.

De Beer, joining the group leadership team and reporting directing to Transnet group CEO Siyabonga Gama, will be responsible for establishing the leadership and strategic capabilities required to enable its railway, ports and pipeline businesses to work collectively in serving Transnet customers.

Transnet believed De Beer’s previous role as commercial GM had provided a solid foundation to lead the State-owned group’s ambitions of becoming an integrated logistics partner.

Meanwhile, “seasoned executive” Fanucchi, reporting to De Beer, was tasked with entry into new markets, with a particular focus on strengthening regional trade in the manufacturing, automotive, bulk, industrial and retail sectors.

Further, Transnet Capital Projects group executive Herbert Msagala had been transferred to the office of the chief business development officer as business development group executive.
