Tobeka Madiba Zuma, First Lady of South Africa, hosts two high level visits this week

7th December 2015

Company Announcement - Tobeka Madiba Zuma today attended the opening of the Forum of China-Africa Co-operation Heads of State Summit. The opening was attended by Heads of State from many different African countries and the President and First Lady of China, Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan. The opening is on the back of an official State Visit of China to South Africa, which took place directly before the Summit. President Jacob Zuma described in his opening of the Summit how the partnership between Africa and China “encompasses cooperation in a number of developmental areas including agriculture, renewable energy, skills training, health, peace and security and infrastructure development.”

Earlier in the week, President Zuma and Madame Zuma hosted Prince Harry during his first official tour on behalf of the Queen. Although he has been to South Africa many times, this was his first visit in this capacity. Prince Harry discussed with the President and the First Lady what South African and British leaders and civil organizations alike could do to support young people, including those living with HIV, and finding innovative solutions to empower them socially and economically. Prince Harry also offered his support to the Government of South Africa’s efforts to combat rhino poaching.

Madame Zuma will host her fellow African First Ladies, and Madame Peng, at the Organization for African First Ladies against HIV/AIDS joint advocacy event, being held on the side lines of FOCAC on 5 December.
