The Maiden Flight- The TH180 Takes Flight

24th February 2015

Instead of bringing a mock-up like last year, Enstrom set the goal to have a flying TH180 on booth display at the largest helicopter show, HAI Heli-Expo, in Orlando USA. To date this goal is on track.

Enstrom Helicopter has reported that its TH180 — a new, two-seat training helicopter based on the F28F — made its first flight Feb. 6.

The ground and flight test took about an hour, Enstrom reported, describing the aircraft's flight speed and manoeuvres as "remarkable."

Although Enstrom has been flying a prototype of the TH180, it is a research and development (R&D) aircraft which tends to be full of wires, instrumentation, extra holes, and primer coloured panels.

As of today, the tail-cone and engine are installed, the cabin is attached, and the wiring is nearly complete.

While the TH180 was primarily designed for the training market, other suitable missions for the light helicopter include personal transport. Powered by a Lycoming HIO-390 engine, the TH180 is built to be rugged and economical, while providing good headroom and legroom for the two persons or instructor and student.

More details about the aircraft's progress are scheduled to be released on the opening day of Helicopter Association International's Heli-Expo 2015; March 3-5 in Orlando, Fla. Enstrom plans to have the TH180 on display at Booth 1828, along with video of the flight.
