The Automotive Industry Development Centre (AIDC) marked a significant milestone on March 19, 2024 as it celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Automotive Supplier Park (ASP) in Rosslyn. The event, attended by esteemed stakeholders from the automotive industry served as a celebration of AIDC’s contributions to the automotive sector and its role in driving economic growth in the broader northern economic corridor.
The ASP is one of the first automotive hubs in Africa, housing local and foreign automotive investors. The ASP's location creates synergies and cost-saving potential for investors due to its proximity to all major OEMS in Gauteng.
AIDC CEO, Mr Andile Africa said AIDC is dedicated to shape the future of automotive manufacturing through strategic investments and expansion plans for ASP. He said, “with a focus on sustainability, efficiency and competitiveness, AIDC aims to further enhance ASP as a prime location for automotive manufacturing.”
The ASP spans 160 hectares and currently houses 13 factories comprising mainly of automotive component manufacturers and suppliers to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). The AIDC has generated over 2000 permanent indirect jobs through the companies housed in the Automotive Supplier Park, as opposed to 900 contractual jobs at the inception phase.
MEC of Gauteng Economic Development Ms Tasneem Motara reflected on the transformative impact of the AIDC. She said, “as we celebrate the achievements of the AIDC, let us acknowledge the remarkable work that incapsulates their impact. From 2019 to 2023, the AIDC has created a staggering 650 jobs and trained 8000 individuals. Furthermore, the revenue generated by the 13 incubatees stands at 139 million rands, which is testimony to AIDC’s commitment to fostering entrepreneurship”.
As the first ASP constructed in 2004, the park has been instrumental in creating an economic viable model for automotive supplier parks across South Africa. Milestones achieved by our respective investors is prove that the ASP offers state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities.
