South Africa’s Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) is seeking a supplier for the development of common-user port infrastructure required to support a liquified natural gas (LNG) terminal, proposed for the Port of Richards Bay, in KwaZulu-Natal.

Besides marine structures such as berths, bollards, fenders, pipe racks and bund walls, the project scope includes the development of a gas transmission pipeline for handling LNG imports, as well as bulk services infrastructure.

“The common-user principle is in place to allow ease of third-party access,” Richards Bay port manager Captain Dennis Mqadi explains.

The development of the common-user port infrastructure is planned for implementation from October 2023 until March 2027, in line with the operationalisation of the LNG terminal.
