Telecommunications group Telkom was set to collectively increase its basic voice and data connectivity services tariffs by 1.3% from August 1, the JSE-listed group said on Friday.
“We have … endeavoured to contain the adjustments to a minimum and kept them significantly lower than inflation, which is currently at 5.6%,” Telkom MD for consumer services and retail Manelisa Mavuso said in a statement.
Outgoing fixed-to-mobile call prices would fall 3.1% to R1.30 a minute during peak time and 2.7% to R1.05 a minute during off-peak time.
Telkom would not change DSL and Telkom Internet monthly subscription rates and the group would combine on-net local and long distance call tariffs for postpaid and WorldCall into a single tariff of R0.46 a minute during standard time and R0.23 a minute during Callmore time. It will carry a minimum charge of R0.63.
PrepaidFone on-net local and long distance call tariffs would also be combined and charged at R0.70 and R0.33 a minute during standard and Callmore time respectively, with a minimum charge of R0.96.
The surcharge for PrepaidFone and Top-up would increase from R0.66 to R0.70 a call.
International call tariff adjustments varied, as Telkom aimed to reduce or leave unchanged the tariffs for calls to some destinations, while others would be increased.
The telecommunications group would increase its postpaid analogue residential line rentals by 5.8% to R157 a month and business line rentals by 6.2% to R216 a month.
The monthly subscription for the Telkom Weekender Plan would rise to R176, Telkom Evening and Weekend Plan to R194 and Telkom Unlimited Anytime Plan to R350.
Further, installation charges for postpaid, PrepaidFone ISDN and DSL services would increase 6%, as would line rental tariffs for PrepaidFone.
All public payphone call tariffs remained unchanged.
