As telecommunications giant Telkom widened the scope of its long-term evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) network, which was launched late last year, another 22 suburbs have been linked to the superfast wireless network.
LTE-A, which boasted peak download speeds of nearly 150 Mb/s, would now cover areas in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape.
These included Carlswald; Halfway Gardens; Houghton Estate; Illovo; Melrose; Midstream Estate; Midlands Estate; Noordwyk; Parktown; Parktown North; Greenside; Sandhurst; Saxonwold; Kyalami Hills; Killarney; Green Point; Craighall Park; Mouille Point; Three Anchor Bay; Sea Point; Rondebosch; Rosebank; Umhlanga; Vorna Valley; Prestondale and Highveld.
Telkom Mobile and Consumer MD Attila Vitai said LTE-A was comparable to the speeds available over a fibre network and offered a “compelling alternative” to fixed-line solutions for high-speed connectivity.
“Telkom is on a journey to deliver super-fast broadband on both wireless and fixed lines to cater for the specific needs and requirements of our customers.”
In November, Parkview became the first of more than 50 targeted suburbs to go live on the plug-and-play super-fast wireless broadband solution, which operated using Telkom’s 2.3 GHz spectrum.
