Tamper-Proof Vehicle Nameplate: Schreiner ProTech Develops Enhanced Color Laser Film 2 for Custom Laser Marking

18th May 2018

Schreiner ProTech has raised its proven Color Laser Film (CLF) for custom marking of automotive nameplates to a new security level. The enhanced Color Laser Film 2 (CLF 2) has an innovative composition of layers and additional security features preventing non-destructive removal of the nameplate. CLF 2, for example, can be used to produce Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs).

Schreiner ProTech's Color Laser Film (CLF) is a laser-markable film that can be inscribed with variable data at the customer's site. CLF differs from other laser-markable materials because the inscription created by the laser is protected by a transparent film that is applied before the marking process and not affected by the laser beam. This technology is unique and was enhanced by two key factors in the development project of the tamper-proof CLF 2: An innovative composition of the CLF 2 layers leads to interactions between the various materials during the laser marking process, which prevents non-destructive removal of the nameplate.

The additional integration of other security features such as watermarks, holograms and security die cuts makes the label particularly tamper-proof, precluding undetected tampering with the label.

CLF 2 is inscribed at a speed of 5,000 millimeters per second in an emission-free process. Following the marking process, the laser beam cuts the label to the desired size from a continuous roll. The nameplates are scratch-proof, robust and durable. This video shows the speed of the inscription process: http://bit.ly/CLF2_Video_EN

“Our Color Laser Film inscription system has been successfully established in the automotive industry for years. Higher security demands of the market for counterfeiting and tampering protection of vehicle nameplates motivated our further development of the system,” said Thomas Wolff, Product Manager Color Laser Film at Schreiner ProTech. Deliveries of CLF 2 to automotive industry customers started in early 2018.
