Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has suspended all vessel movements in the Port of Durban owing to a storm lashing parts of KwaZulu-Natal.

“Transnet’s marine services team and tugboats are assisting with several emergencies. These include the grounding of three vessels in the Port of Durban. Other vessels have broken mooring lines and are drifting in the channel.

“While we are still in the process of determining damage to port infrastructure, we are relieved that no injuries have been reported,” TNPA said on Tuesday.

It added that several of its premises, including that of the Transnet Maritime School of Excellence, had been flooded.

TNPA expects operations at the Port of Richards Bay will also be affected by the storm.
