Government has identified the first five companies that will benefit from its Black Industrialist (BI) programme, says Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) incentive development and administration division deputy director- general Malebo Mabitje-Thompson.

She notes that the DTI is in the process of “agreeing conditions with each company to allow for payment to be made”.

The companies are active in the fields of agroprocessing, metal fabrication, electrotechnical, plastics and pharmaceuticals.

Mabitje-Thompson says the DTI is hopeful to have the first project on the ground within a year.

The BI programme aims to develop a group of black industrialists in South Africa.
