A 20-member South African business delegation is heading to Russia next week to showcase their home-grown products and services at the 2017 World Food Moscow International Food Exhibition.

Through its Export Marketing and Investment Assistance (EMIA) scheme, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is funding the participation of these companies in the exhibition, with the aim of increasing the export of South African manufactured products to Russia.

“The objective of the South African participation in the exhibition is to promote South Africa’s agroprocessing industry to consolidate and establish market presence of South Africa in Russia,” said Trade and Industry Minister Dr Rob Davies in a statement released on Friday.

The move is meant to open more doors for the companies, nurture export markets for South African products and services, and attract new foreign direct investment into the country.

“This will also generate greater returns for the South African agroprocessing and related industries at the show and within the Russian market, in alignment with the DTI’s market diversification strategy,” he added.

Thandi Wines, JAB Dried Fruit Products and Continental Biscuits, among other food and beverage market players, are exhibiting at the International Food show.
