South Africa has been named the Annual Outsourcing Destination of the Year for 2016 by the Global Sourcing Association, which presented the award at a ceremony, held in the UK, that brought together more than 350 association members of the representative leading international outsourcing service providers, advisers and buyers.

Trade and Industry Minister Dr Rob Davies said the award followed a “rigorous assessment process” and would enable the sector to grow and to continue attracting investments.

“This award cements South Africa's investment position and further presents a value proposition, which is underpinned by high-quality standards, relevant skills, the potential to deliver complex and noncomplex processes, as well as cost savings, which enhances our proposition for business process services globally,” said Davies.

He added that South Africa offered value beyond a cost arbitrage, with investors reporting positive operational effectiveness and revenue impacts.

Since 2012, the local offshore business process services (BPS) market has experienced compounded average growth of 25% year-on-year and now boasts around 30 000 offshore jobs, with the UK being the leading buyer of South African BPS services, followed by Australia and the US, which is rapidly growing.
