Solar Lighting Solution for Fisherman’s Lane

The new solar lighting installation improves the safety conditions for fishermen and beach goers

BEKA Schréder has supplied the solar lighting solution for the Fisherman’s Lane precinct at Strandfontein Pavilion in Muizenberg, Western Cape.

The City of Cape Town has upgraded the Fisherman’s Lane precinct, which includes the removal of the damaged road and seawall, the provision of a new access road to link the parking areas, and the construction of new recreational facilities. BEKA Schréder has supplied the solar lighting solution to provide street and pedestrian lighting to improve the safety conditions for fishermen and beach goers.

The SOLARPOLE was chosen for this project as no reticulation was required, thus saving on installation costs. The SOLARPOLE, BEKA Schréder’s integrated LED solar lighting solution, has been designed and manufactured in South Africa, to operate reliably at a high light output over an 11-hour period.

The SOLARPOLE has sufficient autonomy to cater for up to three continuous overcast or rainy days, to continue its reliable night operation. The vertical solar panels use a cylindrical module to achieve a better aesthetical design, as well as providing less wind resistance. The long-life lithium (LifePO4) energy storage technology offers up to 8 years battery lifetime. An optional Pole Retrofit version available for Ø76mm poles.

‘The Fisherman's Lane refurbishment project has significantly enhanced the facilities and access routes with substantial improvements. I am so encouraged to see that this space offers beachgoers the necessary infrastructure to truly enjoy the area and that families will now be able to embrace the Fisherman’s Lane beachfront over the upcoming summer. (…) Not only is the beach now more accessible and safer for fishermen to use, but the area now provides the community with access to a functional and aesthetically pleasing pavilion close to home,’ said the City’s Deputy Mayor and Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment, Alderman Eddie Andrews.
