Project management company SNC-Lavalin has inked a multiyear agreement with oil producer Chevron South Africa’s crude oil refinery in Cape Town, which will run until August 31, 2020.

As per the agreement, SNC-Lavalin’s scope of work includes the mechanical maintenance services of various process units located around the refinery.

A workforce capacity of about 80 personnel, including engineering, management staff and artisans, will be mobilised to site to undertake running plant maintenance of the refinery, in conjunction with Chevron’s operations team.

“Securing this contract strengthens our strategic growth in the country and increases our footprint in the region from a shutdowns and maintenance perspective,” said SNC-Lavalin sub-Saharan Africa GM Stuart Kent.

This follows a three-year master services agreement, awarded to SNC-Lavalin in 2016, related to 2017 turnaround work at the refinery. The refinery shutdown was successfully completed by the team in February this year, without a recordable injury.

Chevron South Africa’s crude oil refinery is the third-largest crude refinery in South Africa.

The output product is one of the top four petroleum brands in the country, producing gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, liquefied petroleum gas and other products for South Africa, as well as exports to other African countries. The refinery has a crude oil input capacity of 110 000 bbl/d.
