East Rand-based SkyJacks has been supplying the construction, mining, building and maintenance industries with specialised access systems – including powered suspended platforms, aerial work platforms and aluminium scaffolding – for over three decades, having been established in 1978.
Since January 2015, SkyJacks has been a division of Waco Africa, which is 74.9%-owned by Waco International, with 25.1% held by Bopa Morua.
The company’s full service range includes the installation and hire of suspended platform systems and the hire of scissor lifts, mobile boom lifts and telehandlers, as well as aluminium access towers and facade scaffolding. It also provides training in the operation of telehandlers, aerial work platforms and suspended platforms.
SkyJacks, which is a partner of Sky Climber and has, since 1979, been the sole distributor in South Africa of the global company’s Alpha and Compact hoists, employs 151 people. It is currently expanding its aerial work platform rental fleet and recently awarded a contract for the supply of new scissor lifts and mobile boom lifts to Dingli Machinery, of China. This will complement SkyJacks’ existing range of JLG and Genie machines.
A Level 2 broad-based black economic-empowerment contributor, SkyJacks has been involved with Murray & Roberts at Eskom’s Medupi and Kusile power stations, where it has temporary suspended platforms erected in the boilers.
