Location
Sibaya consists of about 1 000 ha of coastal landscape between the Ohlanga and uMdloti estuaries on KwaZulu-Natal province’s north coast, in South Africa.

Client
Tongaat Hulett Developments.

Project Description
The Sibaya site comprises seven nodes. Each node will have its own proposed character, but all will be connected through the development’s infrastructure, pathways and green boulevards.

Fully realised, the precinct will comprise offices, shops, restaurants, educational institutions and recreational opportunities to complement the residential offering. The Sibaya Casino and Entertainment World is located centrally within the Sibaya site.

Significant investment in water, waste-water, electrical and road infrastructure is also being made as part of the development.

This will not only serve this precinct but also enhance services to surrounding communities.

Jobs to be Created
More than 25 000 permanent jobs are expected to be created.

A further estimated 270 000 temporary construction jobs will be created over the project’s development, in line with construction demands.

Value
The project is expected to inject an estimated R50-billion into the local economy.

Duration
The project will take about 15 to 20 years to complete.

Latest Developments
Nodes 1 and 5 are ready for development.

Node 4 is undergoing its environment-impact assessment.
