South Africa’s power system would be stable on Thursday night and was expected to remain so over the weekend, energy utility Eskom said in its biweekly update on Thursday.
This followed the failure of a boiler at Eskom’s Witbank-based Duvha power station on Sunday night, which added “more pressure to an already tight system”, but was unlikely to result in load shedding.
The failure of Unit 3’s boiler on March 30 was “apparently owing to over-pressurisation” and was currently being investigated.
Peak demand for the rest of the week was forecast at: 29 461 MW on Friday, 28 801 MW on Saturday, 28 501 MW on Sunday, 31 130 MW on Monday, 31 294 MW on Tuesday and 31 309 MW on Wednesday.
