Two more Johannesburg suburbs would become a part of the “fibrehood” family as telecommunications start-up Vumatel deployed a fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network in Saxonwold and Parkwood.

The first homes and businesses were expected to be online by September, as the infrastructure work commenced in the third quarter of this year, the company said on Thursday.

The Saxonwold and Parkwood Residents Association (Sapra) had followed the suit of the various residents associations responsible for bringing FTTH to Parkhurst, Greenside, Parktown North, Killarney and Riviera.

“There has been much acclaim by the residents of the Parkhurst area and, with the benefits that fibre affords residents, we look forward to becoming a fully-fledged Vuma fibrehood in the coming months,” Sapra committee member Bill Haslam said in a statement

Vumatel said the first homes in Greenside and Parktown North had been connected by the end of April – six weeks after construction started.
