Enterprise application software group SAP, Kenya’s Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Multi Media University have partnered to deliver an ICT skills training programme.
The parties on Friday launched a six-week training module covering technology, business, finance and logistics, as well as to develop critical soft business skills, at Multi Media University, in Ongata Rongai.
“This programme will offer selected students across the continent the opportunity to develop world-class IT and business skills, effectively giving them an opportunity to play a role in contributing towards Africa’s future economic growth and infrastructure development,” SAP said in a statement.
The initiative aimed to create 75 university graduates a year and place them in internships at SAP customers and partners, as well as some of Kenya’s leading companies.
SAP, the Kenyan government and the university started preparation in September for the pilot programme, which formed part of a “larger African effort” launched in May.
The multimillion-euro Skills for Africa programme – the African chapter of the SAP Workforce of the Future campaign – would tackle “various complex skills challenges” in the wider Europe, Middle East and Africa region.
