The South African Federation of Civil Engineering Contractors (Safcec’s) newly appointed executive director Webster Mfebe expected to focus on aligning the organisation’s mission with the current trends in the civil engineering industry.

The former TWP nonexecutive director and MD and owner of Phendula Consulting, said a number of civil engineering projects were expected to originate from renewable-energy projects, while State-owned entities, the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa, Transnet and the South African National Roads Agency Limited, were expected to bring renewed growth to civil engineering.

“The strategic infrastructure projects and improved budget spend government has planned for middle 2013 will hopefully see tenders awarded in a more efficient and fair manner, with contractors able to deliver on time and within budget,” he said.

Mfebe took up the post on January 1.
