Independent upstream oil and gas company SacOil on Tuesday announced the appointment of South African national oil company PetroSA acting COO Dr Thabo Kgogo as CEO of SacOil with effect from June 1.

Kgogo, with more than 12 years experience in the oil and gas industry, would be replacing current acting CEO Roger Rees.

“We are delighted that Thabo has agreed to join the company. His experience in the oil and gas industry will be extremely valuable as we continue to grow the business and engage new opportunities that exist throughout Africa,” SacOil chairperson Tito Mboweni said.

SacOil pointed out that Kgogo had been responsible for PetroSA's integrated operations, which included offshore production wells and platforms, a gas-to-liquid refinery and shipping and aviation services.

“He was instrumental in imparting a culture of operational excellence, production optimisation, reserves addition, environmental compliance and safety. He pioneered the project development [for the] importation of liquefied natural gas into South Africa as well as the company's refinery sustainability projects,” SacOil noted.
