Project Description
The REM will be one of the world’s largest automated transport networks, comprising 67 km of double tracks with 26 stations. 

The project will connect downtown Montreal to the South Shore, the North Shore, the West Island and Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport. The REM will be integrated into existing public transit systems.

Potential Job Creation
An estimated 34 000 direct and indirect jobs will be created during construction, and more than 1 000 permanent jobs will be created once the REM is in service.

Value
About $6.3-billion.

Duration
The start of commercial service on the first segment of the REM is expected in mid-2021.

Latest Developments
Groupe des Partenaires pour la Mobilité des Montréalais (PMM), the Alstom-led consortium with SNC-Lavalin, has signed a contract with CDPQ Infra to deliver a complete automatic and driverless light metro system, including rolling stock and signalling, and operation and maintenance services, for the REM project.
