The Rooppur NPP will comprise two WWER-1200 reactors, with a total capacity of 2 400 MW.

Duration
Commercial operation of the Rooppur NPP Unit 1 is scheduled for 2023 and Unit 2 for 2024.

On November 30, 2017, the first concrete pour for Unit 1 was held.

On July 8, 2018, the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority issued the licence for the start of construction of Unit 2.

Latest Developments
Construction of the walls of Unit 1’s reactor building, reinforcement of the reactor building walls and the foundation slab of the auxiliary reactor building are under way.

The soil stabilisation works in the evaporative cooling tower have also started.

Construction of Unit 2 started on July 14.

Key Contracts and Suppliers
AtomStroyExport – Rosatom’s engineering division (general construction contractor); Atomenergomash – Rosatom’s machine building division (equipment for the reactor island and auxiliary equipment for the turbine island).

Various divisions of Rosatom are in charge of manufacturing reactor vessels, steam generators, pumps, heat-exchangers and other equipment.
