The R71-million resurfacing of the R27 between Milnerton and Melkbosstrand is progressing well, the Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works said on Wednesday.

Edge-break repairs and the supplementation of gravel shoulders between the Melkbosstrand road and Tryall road intersections had been completed since the project’s start in April.

The milling and backfilling of patches for base repairs on the southbound carriageway between the Tryall road and Racecourse road intersections had also been finished.

The resurfacing of the southbound carriageway between Marine drive and Bay Beach avenue had now started on the approach to Blaauwberg road intersection, while various maintenance and repair works would continue on the sides and shoulders of the road.

Mole barriers were being installed in the vicinity of Marine drive intersection.

A total of 8% of the contract value was expected to go to targeted enterprises in the Western Cape, and 7 000 person-days of work would be created during the upgrade.
