Real value of building plans passed up 10.2% in 2013

The real value of recorded building plans passed increased by 10.2%, or R6.73-billion, during 2013, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) said on Thursday, adding that all three major building categories showed increases.

The largest percentage increase was reported in the nonresidential building category, which saw a 23.3% increase, followed by residential buildings, which increased by 9%, and additions and alterations, increasing by 1.7%.

The seasonally adjusted real value of recorded building plans passed decreased by 9.5% during the three months ended December compared with the prior quarter.

Meanwhile, Stats SA also stated that the real value of buildings reported as completed increased by 9.8% year-on-year.

The additions and alterations category showed a 13.5% increase while nonresidential buildings and residential buildings increased by 13.1% and 6.3% respectively.

Quarter-on-quarter the real value of buildings reported as completed decreased by 15.2% during the fourth quarter of 2013.
