Project Description
The project entails the rehabilitation of the R28 between Sebokeng and Westonaria. The road has degraded over the years, owing to increased road use by heavy duty trucks, particularly from the mines and farms in the area.

The project scope includes significant road works along 29 km of the R28; reinstating road markings and signage; replacing damaged signs and guardrails; clearing the road reserve and drainage structures; and cutting overgrown grass along the route.

Jobs to Be Created
The project is designed to be labour intensive and preference will be given to local small, medium-sized and microenterprises to meet the 30% subcontracting requirements.

Local labour employed on site will include females, youth and persons with disabilities.

R237-million.

Duration
The project is scheduled to be completed over 24 months.

Latest Developments
Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Ismail Vadi launched the project in April.
