R17m Tsitsikamma upgrade to start next week

The R17-million planned upgrade of the Tsitsikamma section of the Garden Route National Park, in the Eastern Cape, will get under way next week, starting at the Storms River Rest Camp, in Tsitsikamma.

The upgrade at Storms River was scheduled to start with the lodge’s administration building and entrance gate. The renovation of the gate aimed to introduce a simpler structure and system for visitors entering the park’s main gate.

The upgrade would also include the refurbishment of 17 oceanettes overlooking the marine area, as well as paving and roadworks for the Otter camp.

The gate area would be cordoned off while work on the main gate progressed to allow buses and vehicles easy access, while a temporary road was constructed to allow visitors to access the park.

Noise levels were expected to remain normal and parking spaces would not be affected by the construction work.

“We have structured construction work with the visitor in mind and all work will adhere to environmental legislation and standards,’ said Garden Route National Park area manager Lesley Anne Meyer.
