PUNCH DRUNK

South Africa’s toxic politics has left business, as well as potential investors, punch drunk. Besides the irrational ‘night of the long knives’ Cabinet reshuffle, business confidence has been further knocked by the unilateral release of a Mining Charter that cannot be implemented and is probably unconstitutional, and by a Public Protector finding in relation to the mandate of the South African Reserve Bank that appears to be downright illegal. The economic damage being done is now bordering on the treasonous.
