Project house DRA appoints new CEO

New DRA CEO Wray Carvelas

JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Project house DRA on Wednesday announced the appointment of Wray Carvelas as its new CEO.

Carvelas, who has been CEO of DRA Americas for the past five years, has served the company in various key capacities since 2001.

In the coming weeks, Carvelas will be embarking on a global roadshow to DRA’s teams and clients in Africa, Australia, Canada, China, India and the US.

Before moving to North America, he managed a project portfolio worth more than $4-billion as DRA’s director of projects for Africa.

DRA chairperson Tim Netscher reported that DRA had gone through an extensive recruitment process of interviewing high calibre internal and external candidates before taking the decision to appoint Carvelas, who has more than a quarter century of experience in gold, copper, diamonds, iron-ore, nickel and platinum.

The holder of a cum laude MBA degree from Stellenbosch University, Carvelas replaces Andrew Naudé, who acted as interim CEO from May 2016, in addition to serving as CFO and strategy director.

Naudé will continue to work with Carvelas and the DRA group executive committee in the next few months to ensure a smooth transition, the company said in a media release to Creamer Media’s Mining Weekly Online.

As a multidisciplinary global engineering group, DRA provides mining, mineral processing, energy, water treatment and infrastructure services from concept to commissioning, as well as operations and maintenance services for the mineral resources and energy sectors.
