Presence detector helps save on lighting costs

EBDHS is an increased-performance passive infrared presence detector designed by electronics manufacturer CP Electronics, which was developed for lighting control in areas with occupied spaces and increased mounting heights. As a result, it can greatly contribute towards energy savings by only emitting light when needed, says control and factory automation company Shorrock Automation.

It is responsive to the constant change in people’s lighting needs as it can be pro-grammed and adjusted to produce an exceptionally accurate detection beam.

With a mounting height of up to 20 m, the presence detector has a lens technology that allows high sensitivity within the detection range. It has a detachable sensor head and switched or dimming (analogue, digital serial interface, digital addressable lighting interface) options, reports Shorrock Automation, which is the South African representative for CP Electronics.

The technology is suitable for high bay applications as the presence detector’s minimum dimmed level provides low- level light output in keeping with health and safety requirements. Additional features include adjustable masking shields to tailored detection zones, a burn-in mode for fluorescent tubes and a verify mode that reduces false triggering by ensuring detection from more than one of the internal sensors.

All functionality is fully programmable using either CP Electronics’ UHS5 or UNLCDHS handsets.
