JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane on Friday received a presentation from the Platinum Leadership Forum, led by CEOs of platinum mining companies operating in South Africa.

According to a Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) release, the CEOs presented on the current state of the platinum sector and proposed possible solutions and areas for collaboration with the DMR.

The aim of the meeting is to support forward momentum for the struggling platinum industry.

The Minister said the DMR and platinum mining shared the mutual goal of ensuring growth and sustainability.

“We’re encouraged that the sector is taking advantage of our open-door policy and coming forward to engage constructively,” Zwane said.

Today’s low $902/oz is unsustainable for deep platinum mines.
