Outa to appeal e-toll judgment

The Opposition to Urban Tolling Alliance (Outa) will appeal a court ruling that thwarted its bid to have e-tolls in Gauteng scrapped, it said on Monday evening.

"We will be appealing the e-toll judgment," chairperson Wayne Duvenage said.

On December 13 the High Court in Pretoria dismissed an application by Outa to have the electronic tolling of Gauteng's major roads scrapped.

The court ordered Outa to pay the legal costs of the application. Outa also intended appealing this order.

Outa's founding members are the South African Vehicle Renting and Leasing Association, the South African Tourism Service Association, Retail Motor Industries of South Africa, the Quadpara Association of South Africa, and the South African National Consumers Union.

The appeal had to be lodged with the court by January 9.
