The chairperson of South American gold project developer Orosur Mining, John Walmsley, has died, following an illness, the TSX- and Aim-listed company reported this week.

Walmsley joined the board of directors as chairperson in 2013 and has served in that capacity since that time. Robert Schafer will become interim chairperson of the board.

"It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of John. His strategic insight, courage, integrity and respect for people were a constant source of value and motivation for our board and our team. John will be sorely missed, and we wish his family our sincere sympathies and condolences," commented CEO Ignacio Salazar.

Orosur is a precious metals developer and explorer with gold projects in Colombia and Uruguay.
